Measuring your deck

In order to get a quote from Under Deck Oasis, we require some photos of the deck, and a simple drawing with the deck dimensions. On this page we will describe the best way to take photos, and measure your deck accurately in order to create your sketch.

Step 1: Taking Photos

You'll need to take 6-10 current photos of your deck. Any good quality cell phone with a camera can handle the job.

Use the "upload" field on the Quote Submission Form to send in your photos along with your information. You can also email photos to info@underdeckoasis.com. - just make sure you include your info in that email so we can match the photos to your project quote.

Here are a few examples of pictures that are required

Step 2: Measuring Your Deck

We require, at minimum, these basic dimensions in order to quote your deck. Having incomplete measurements can lead to delays in quoting and scheduling. Inaccurate measuring can result in the wrong materials being shipped to the job site, creating more delays and potentially costly pricing changes.

Measuring accuracy needs to be within the nearest few inches. You do not need to be absolutely exact, but within a margin of error of 2-3 inches.

For decks without a Cantilever (overhang):

Use this reference diagram and provide the following measurements. Use one corner as your starting point, then measure in a clockwise or counter-clockwise fashion.

For decks with a Cantilever (overhang):

Use the same measurements as above, and do additional measurements from the house to the beam (D), and from the beam to the deck rim (E).

More complex decks...

Most decks are more complex than the examples given above. Use this as a starting guide for measuring your unique deck. Include measurements for angles, cuts outs, and other anomalies. The more information we have, the better (and faster) we can quote your project. You cannot provide too much information!

Step 3: Create Your Drawing

Now you can take those dimensions and do a simple sketch with them. You can do the sketch by hand, or feel free to use a computer drawing app. The goal is to have the drawing show the dimensions of the photos you took, so our design team can accurately create an Under Deck Oasis system for your unique project.

You easily just take a picture of the sketch with your phone as well, as long as it is clear the readable.
